BBC Nine'o'clock News, 15 April 1997
The Nine'o'clock News and Campaign Report, with Peter Sissons. Europe is rising yet further on the campaign agenda. Reports: 1) Robin Oakley on the UK's defeat in the EU Fisheries Council over quota reductions. Meanwhile the Conservative Party's vice-chairman has put out an election address opposing government policy; she's not a Minister so that's OK. 2) James Robbins in Brussels gives more context to the quota decision. 3) John Pienaar on criticism of Tony Blair's education choices for his children. In the second part: 4) Anne Perkins' campaign desk on ducking questions at press conferences, a new poll, the Ulster Unionist manifesto, and a Jeremy Vine report on the technology being used in Labour's campaign. Labour has a radio mic on Tony Blair so the broadcasters get a sound feed - his successors better take note. 5) Michael Buerk and Steven Cape report from the South West. There is a constituency report from Torridge and West Devon. 6) Robin Oakley has news of a development: a Minister has broken the "options open" policy on the Euro. John Major's made it clear that Ministers can't to that so he'll have to be sacked.
