S1E04 Cold Kansas Desert: The Future is Wild
Five million years in the future, North America has undergone a dramatic transformation. Ice sheets extend as far sount as Chicago - turing the once fertile wheat-belt into a cold, dry desert. The episode follows the North American Rattleback, a distant descendant of modern rodents. A mother rattleback and her calf desperately forage for sustenance, eventually uncovering a desert turnip buried within the burrow of a Spink, a small burrowing creature that thrives beneath the surface. Their digging, however, does not go unnoticed, drawing the attention of deadly aerial predators—Deathgleaners. Deathgleaners, enormous bat-like creatures, survey the desert for anything they can scavenge - dead or alive.. As night falls, these predators return to their caves in the mountains, where they share the spoils of their hunt in a rare display of cooperative behavior. Meanwhile, the spinks emerge from their burrows under the cover of darkness to engage in mass mating ceremonies. Through the struggle for survival in this frigid desert, The Cold Kansas Desert showcases the relentless challenges faced by the creatures of the future. From the cunning strategies of the deathgleaners to the resilience of the rattlebacks, life endures in even the most extreme environments. #thefutureiswild #ColdKansasDesert #spink #deathgleaner #rattleback #thefutureiswild #animals #speculativebiology #speculativeevolution #massextinction #futureearth #futureworlds #future #futureanimals #iceage
