S1E07 Tropical Antarctica: The Future is Wild
100 million AD: Earth's continents have shifted dramatically. Antarctica has moved closer to the equator and become a warm, tropical environment. What was once a frozen wasteland is now a lush and humid jungle teeming with life - life that is descended from the few groups of animals that first made it to this isolated continent. A new family of birds is very successful - flutterbirds. Evolved from petrels, they have radiated and become several succesful species. Large predatory insects - Falconflies - are masterfaul aerial hunters, and big enough to take a flutterbird. But not all of the birds are defenceless. Complex relationships are common, including chemical rewards for pollination and group mimicry. #thefutureiswild #speculativebiology #speculativeevolution #roachcutter #flutterbirds #spitfirebird #falconfly #futureearth #antarctica #petrels #beetles #TropicalAntarctica #futureworlds #future #richardfortey #forest #rainforest #animals #futureanimals #extinction
