Butterfly with Markers | Sketchbook Experiments | 8 Mediums

A calm sketchbook session exploring a butterfly and delicate flower branch using water-based markers. In this video, I continue my Sketchbook Experiments series, where I explore the same subject using different art materials. After working with graphite, ink, and coloured pencils, this time I moved into markers. For this piece, I decided to keep the same colour palette I used in the coloured pencil version. I really enjoyed those combinations, and keeping the palette consistent helped create continuity across the series while letting the medium itself change the feeling. Markers brought a completely different energy. I approached this drawing with faster, more expressive strokes, allowing the marks to stay visible and letting the colours build through layers and variation rather than blending. I started with loose greens for the branches and leaves, then added soft yellow for the flowers using quick, scribbled marks, leaving small spaces of the paper visible to keep light in the composition. The butterfly was built more carefully at first, but as I continued, I allowed the process to become more intuitive. Layering different greens, blues, and yellows helped create texture and depth, while darker tones and black added contrast and structure. One of my favourite moments was adding the bright pink background.Using loose strokes and leaving a small gap around the subject helped the butterfly and flowers stand out while keeping a soft, textured feeling. This session felt more dynamic and bold compared to the previous ones, and reminded me how much the medium influences not just the result, but the way we move and think while creating. This video is part of my Sketchbook Experiments | 8 Mediums Series, where I explore one subject across different materials. I hope this inspires you to explore your own tools in new ways. Let’s pause, practice, and play together. ✨ ✏️ M A T E R I A L S • Sketchbook by Da Vinci, 6 × 9 in (15.24 × 22.86 cm), 40 Sheets. • Markers: • Staedtler Noris Club, double-ended, water-based, set of 12 markers (selected colour) • Crayola Ultra-Clean Washable, Water-based ink, 10 markers (selected colour) Sharpie, fine point, Sharpie, set of 24 markers (selected colour) Studio, double tip, brush and extra fine tips, set of 12 markers (selected colour) 🎵 Music YouTube Audio Library #markerdrawing #sketchbookpractice #butterflyart #calmart #artprocess #colourstudy
