Loose Tulips in Watercolour | Sketchbook Experiments Series | 8 Mediums

For today’s sketchbook experiment, I revisited the same tulip composition from my previous graphite, ink, colour pencil and marker studies, this time exploring the flowers through watercolour 🌷 Before starting this session, I found myself procrastinating again, overthinking the process and wanting everything to turn out “perfect.” But this sketchbook series has been reminding me that my goal is not perfection. My goal is to create consistently, enjoy the process, learn through experimentation and share these quiet creative moments honestly. So today, I let myself paint imperfectly. Using my previous colour pencil study as reference, I lightly sketched the four tulips with a blue watercolour pencil before building soft transparent layers with Permanent Rose and Ultramarine Blue to create cool purple petals with subtle colour variation. For the leaves and stems, I explored mixes of Sap Green, Viridian Green, Lemon Yellow and Ultramarine Blue, allowing the colours to blend naturally on the paper to create texture and movement. Once the petals dried, I added touches of Cadmium Yellow for the pollen, a small warm contrast against the cool purples that became one of my favourite parts of the piece 🌷 Every time I use watercolour, I fall a little more in love with the medium. I still have so much to learn, but I love the softness, textures, happy accidents and quiet unpredictability that appear with every layer of paint. Thank you for spending this relaxing painting session with me Remember to pause, practice, and play everyday✨ 🖌 Materials• Handmade watercolour booklet (video linked below)• Canson watercolour paper, cold pressed, 140 lb, 9 × 12 in (22.9 × 30.5 cm)• Winsor & Newton Cotman field setColours used:• Permanent Rose• Ultramarine Blue• Payne’s Gray• Sap Green• Viridian Green• Cadmium Yellow• Lemon Yellow • Round brushes:• Lion Matiz #9 #10 & #12• Paintworkrs #2 • Staedtler Noris Club Aquarell coloured pencil (blue)• Sharpie fineliner• Water & paper towel 🎵 MusicYouTube Audio Library #Watercolour #TulipPainting #SketchbookSeries #WatercolorPainting #TraditionalArt #BotanicalArt #Sketchbook #SlowArt #FloralArt #ArtProcess #SpringArt #CozyArt #PaintWithMe #WatercolourFlowers #ObservationalArt
