RADIO and TV CHAMBER The Constitution and Justice Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved a proposal that provides for the creation of the National Program to Combat Cancer and Assist Patients (PL 244/19). In an interview on the Electronic Panel that aired this Thursday (16), the rapporteur of the project, Deputy Átila Lira (PP-PI), defended the importance of a State program, provided for by law, aimed at the prevention and treatment of cancer, especially to expand the care of patients throughout the country, in a decentralized manner. “I think that the biggest challenge for high-complexity public health in the country is decentralization. Today, it is not only cancer, but high-complexity treatments, they are mainly carried out in large centers, in large capitals, in regional cities. This ranges from high-complexity surgery, hemodialysis treatment as well as cancer treatment,” said Lira. “And when we talk about a national cancer control program, it won't just be the treatment that we want to decentralize. We will have to have a public policy of screening, of early detection of the disease so that we can make it less costly for the public sector. Because we know that when cancer is at an advanced stage, treatment is very expensive, including for the federal government. Besides being expensive for families in terms of suffering,” he added. The creation of the program allows for more effective management of budgetary resources allocated to combating the disease, including parliamentary amendments for the area, according to Átila Lira.
