Trip to Pema Phendeyling Goenpa

The Dorji Dhen Chorten (Pema Phendeyling Goenpa) in Pangthang, Yangnyer, Trashigang, is a replica of the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodhgaya, India. Constructed in 2008 under the guidance of Yonphula Rinpochhe, this five-storied, 3.4 million Ngultrum structure was built to bring sacred blessings to the local community, ensure prosperity, and honor the Bhutanese monarchy. Situated in Pangthang, Yangnyer, roughly 18 km or 40 minutes driving distance from Chazam, Trashigang. The chorten was built to protect against natural disasters, commemorate the accession of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and mark 100 years of the Wangchuck Dynasty. It is a five-storied, multi-level monument. The first floor houses a statue of Sangay Tempa (Lord Buddha), the second features Ugyen Nor-Lha (Guru Rinpoche), while the upper, non-accessible floors house Drubthob Thangtong Gyalpo, Dorji Sempa, and 1000 Buddhas. Officially named Pema Phendeyling Goenpa, it is often referred to as Yangnyer Dorjiden Chorten and is known for its picturesque location overlooking various Trashigang villages.
