Landgoed Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt | Appeldijk – Bloesem – Linge - Boerenland

I am walking this route on the Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt Estate, a centuries-old estate of the Van Verschuer family spanning approximately 900 hectares. Forest, organic farming, and the Linge river create a varied landscape. The name means ‘island of Mary’. In 1129, Norbertines founded an abbey here, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times due to its location between four provinces. After the Reformation, the properties came under the management of the States of the Quarter of Nijmegen, who sold them in the early 18th century. Since 1734, the estate has been in family ownership, with rights such as hunting, tenancy, and fishing. This varied walk across the Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt estate takes you past fields, meadows, willow groves, and forests, along beautiful avenues and quays, and over the magnificent Appeldijk. In spring, the apple trees here are in full bloom, while later in the summer and autumn they are heavily laden with fruit.
