Enquête | Tensions municipales

Report from October 21, 2021 With the November 7 municipal elections approaching, Enquête observes that the points of contention in city halls often revolve around the same theme: environment versus development. Residents of St-Lin-Laurentides lack drinking water and fear the impact of their town's rampant development. Hard to believe, but even in southern Quebec, so close to Montreal, access to drinking water is an election issue! In the Eastern Townships, citizens accuse elected officials of neglecting environmental protection in favor of real estate developers who want to build on Mount Orford. In St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, the dispute began over a golf course. Since then, the mayor and a majority of councillors have been battling it out with lawyers, and taxpayers are footing the bill.
