Hidden Rural China - Driving Through Guangxi’s Coastal Fields in Beihai | 4K

In this video, I explore the coastal countryside of Beihai, Guangxi, starting near the G325–X224 intersection in Xingdaohu Town, Hepu County. The drive follows County Road X224 and rural village roads through quiet fields, ponds, lowland farmland, and countryside settlements, gradually heading toward Xichang Town and the starting area of the G228 Coastal Highway. This is not the tourist side of Beihai with beaches, resorts, or crowded seafront roads. Instead, this route shows a softer and more hidden side of coastal China — the rural transition zone before the sea. Although the ocean does not directly appear in the video, the landscape already carries the character of the Beibu Gulf coast: flat lowlands, water channels, fish ponds, village roads, overcast skies, and everyday rural life in southern Guangxi. Hepu County has a long and important history along China’s southern coast. Located near the Beibu Gulf and connected with the Nanliu River system, Hepu was one of the historic starting points of the ancient Maritime Silk Road during the Han Dynasty. Long before modern highways and coastal tourism, this area was already linked to maritime trade, pearls, ports, and cultural exchange across the South China Sea. Today, Hepu is also part of Guangxi’s modern coastal transportation network. The route ends near Xichang Town, close to the Guangxi section of G228 — China’s long coastal national highway running from Dandong in Liaoning to Dongxing in Guangxi. Around Beihai and Hepu, this coastal highway connects villages, wetlands, river mouths, farmland, coastal towns, and the wider Beibu Gulf region.
