Some contemporaries write about thousands of pirates entrenched in shorts protected by cannons. Others claim that there were no fortifications. The entire pirate population consisted of hundreds of French, Dutch, and Englishmen, among whom were such recognized pirate men as Henry Thomas Seal and Keith. Anyone interested in pirate themes should be well acquainted with these names. This is a separate interesting topic, but still, we are not talking about this. After the end of the War of the Spanish Succession, England and France freed their fleets. The emperors of the Indian Ocean launched a large-scale offensive, and those decided to urgently fight the world war. Legalize their activities, that is, accept a full agreement with a major power and obtain a safe conduct. Yesterday, such a maneuver was repeatedly performed by the sea, thus turning them into corsairs—the same sea robbers who only had official permission from a power to seize merchant ships. That is, literally, and here are various pirate commissioners. Some of them present themselves as kings of Madagascar, beginning to offer their services to European governments. The emperor's imagination is limitless. The Sultan, for example, tried to sell a project to capture Rome in exchange for patronage. The use of political forces often immediately ends up behind bars. However, in short, the Swedish turned out to be less so. In 1718, when the Northern War was drawing to a close, the Swedish monarch handed over protection to the pirate commissioner Wilhelm Mordu. The alliance with the sea robbers stipulated that Mordu would become governor of Marie, off the northeastern coast of Madagascar. The Swedes, in addition to this pirate, allegedly agreed to send a squadron of sixty ships to help Charles in Europe. He did so.
