🏔 From Schwarzsee to the Hörnlihütte – Hiking at the foot of the Matterhorn 🥾🇨🇭 I'd wanted to do this hike for ages – and it exceeded all my expectations! From Schwarzsee, I hiked up to the Hörnlihütte (3,260 m), the base camp for anyone wanting to tackle the Matterhorn. But even as a "regular" hike, the trail there is a truly memorable experience: spectacular views, an alpine atmosphere, and a destination that's guaranteed to give you goosebumps. I'd wanted to do this hike for ages – and it exceeded all my expectations! From Schwarzsee to Hörnlihütte (3,260 m), the base camp for anyone wanting to tackle the Matterhorn. But even as a "regular" hike, the route is a real treat: spectacular views, an alpine atmosphere, and a destination that's guaranteed to give you goosebumps. Tour information at a glance: Starting point: Schwarzsee mountain station (accessible by cable car from Zermatt) Destination: Hörnlihütte – on the Hörnligrat ridge, directly below the Matterhorn Duration: approx. 2–2.5 hours ascent Elevation gain: around 700 meters Difficulty: moderate – partly rocky, exposed in places, sure-footedness required My conclusion: The scenery up here is simply breathtaking. The trail is varied, sometimes narrow and exposed, but manageable if you're reasonably fit. At the hut, you'll find drinks, snacks, and an unforgettable view. You can really feel the proximity to the Matterhorn – you're practically standing right underneath it.
