Solway's Key 2026

Britain is one of the most nature depleted countries on the planet. With conservationists and farmers fighting for the correct way to use the the land, one estate in the north of Cumbria have initiated a project to manage habitats for profit and biodiversity. With the return of ecosystem engineers that once pioneered ecosystems, Castletown hopes for an extraordinary transformation. The bison came up from Kent and the project began as a partnership between Wildwood Trust and Kent wildwood trust. Since then this project has involved Castletown estate, and our film in particular features Wallington National trust too. This project was created by Ryan McColl and Victoria Ward as part of their graduate project at the university of Cumbria.
