We Thought They Were Gone Forever… We Were Wrong
Mapperton Estate spans over 1,800 acres of stunning Dorset countryside in South West England. With its steep hills and winding valleys, much of the land is better suited to nature recovery than conventional farming. Inspired by the pioneering Knepp Estate in West Sussex, we’ve launched a 100-year project to rewild more than 1,000 acres—welcoming ancient cattle, wild ponies, friendly pigs and industrious beavers to help us. But things rarely go to plan. Animals escape, storms flood our ponds and rivers, roads wash out, trees collapse—and sometimes, so does our morale. And yet, of course, we keep calm and carry on! So come and join us as we brave the elements to bring back biodiversity to this remarkable corner of the British countryside.
