American Signal RM-127 | Alert and Attack | Kettering, OH | 8/5/19

This was such an amazing and awesome (and more importantly, fun) experience. For today's first Monday test I decided to stay more local and go to Kettering to see one of their un-recorded RM-127's, this one on the far northeast side of the city, about a 10-15 minute drive from my new house. This siren is single phase and sounds extremely healthy. I met up with Zach (ThatSirenBloke) who is another siren enthusiast local to the area at this test. I was also joined at this test by Sirens of SW Ohio. This month was a 90 second test, so we got 90 seconds each of both alert and attack. It was still as awesome as the three minute tests of each signal that Kettering does quarterly. This siren was hands-down the loudest siren I've ever heard (even louder than the ACA Allertor I recorded in Knox Twp. last fall prior to their replacement), and it vibrated the ground with ease and rattled my chest and entire body when it was facing directly towards me. I'll be returning to record one of their other unrecorded RM's in the future for sure, but because I'm starting college next month, I'm not certain when that will be, since I have classes during the week. This siren is located on Patterson Rd. at what used to be Fire Station 34, which now has a brand new station located about a mile and a half down the road from where this siren is. This siren and the building the station used to be at are still here, and will likely remain here for coverage reasons. This siren is also hooked up (I believe) to a generator at the station to continue operating in case of a power failure. I had an awesome time at this test and this has to be one of my favorite tests of all time. It was such a fun and great experience to hear one of these amazing sirens. Anyways, enjoy! The 9 sirens in the City of Kettering are tested along with most other sirens in Montgomery and Greene Counties on the First Monday of every month at noon (excluding September, when Kettering has their annual parade on Labor Day), weather-permitting. In January, April, July, and October, Kettering's CompuLert system is set up to automatically test for 3 minutes of each signal on those months. On all other months, the test is shortened to 90 seconds of both Alert and Attack. Sometimes the attack test will run longer than 90 seconds because sometimes the fire dispatchers are busy and do not always have time to cancel the attack cycle after 90 seconds. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Camera(s) Used: Canon Powershot SX50HS (Intro Photos), Canon Vixia HF-R700 (video and audio) © Copyright 2019 by firefreak57 studios.
