El Buque Antártico "Almirante Viel" fue Bautizado y Botado
After five years of construction at the Asmar shipyard, the icebreaker "Almirante Viel" was launched. This vessel is the first of its kind built in the South Pacific and will allow for logistical operations, search and rescue, scientific research, and the resupply of Chilean bases and scientific stations in Antarctica. Dr. Pamela Santibáñez, an ecologist and environmental scientist from the University of Magallanes, served as the ship's godmother.
