Kyoto by the Sea｜Amanohashidate, Ine Boathouses & Coastal Hidden Gems｜Mercure Kyoto Miyazu Resort

Kyoto… but not the Kyoto most tourists know. 🇯🇵 On this trip, I discovered Kyoto's beautiful coastline. During my November 2025 Japan trip, I spent some time exploring the northern coast of Kyoto Prefecture. In the past, I had only visited the city of Kyoto, but this time I wanted to see a completely different side of the region. In this video, I’m sharing some moments from my trip visiting coastal Kyoto, including the famous fishing village of Ine, known for its unique traditional boathouses called funaya. These waterfront houses combine traditional Japanese architecture with practical fishing storage, creating one of the most distinctive landscapes in Japan. I also joined a short boat tour around Ine Bay, where we were able to see the funaya from the water (and feed some very enthusiastic seagulls). Later, I visited Amanohashidate, considered one of the Three Famous Views of Japan. The famous sandbar stretches across the bay and can be viewed from observation points such as Amanohashidate View Land and Kasamatsu Park. During this trip I stayed at 🏨 Mercure Kyoto Miyazu Resort & Spa. The hotel had a surprisingly large suite, beautiful views toward Amanohashidate, and a lounge with complimentary drinks for guests. Northern Kyoto feels completely different from the historic temples and crowds of Kyoto city.
