This trip took me to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia! I took bus number 78 to Rajko Mitić Stadium, the home ground of Red Star Belgrade. Upon arrival, I was overwhelmed by the sight of a real tank parked in front of the football stadium—a sight unimaginable in Japan. The stadium tour cost about 3300 yen, and we first visited the museum. Here, there is an exhibit of the Five Stars of Red Star, awarded to the club's legends, including Dragan Stojković (Pixie), a name familiar to many in Japan. Stojković played for Red Star from 1986 to 1990, contributing to two consecutive league titles as captain, and is a legendary figure who has etched his name in the club's history. The photograph of the 1991 European Cup (now the Champions League) final on display was also impressive. In fact, just before this tournament, in the summer of 1990, Stojković transferred to Marseille, their opponent in the final. Due to an injury, he came on as a substitute late in the second half, but there's a story still told among fans that when the game went to a penalty shootout, he refused to take the penalty out of respect for his former club. The highlight of the museum is the replicas of the European Cup and Toyota Cup displayed side-by-side in the center. The tour allowed us to go down to the pitchside and even touch the grass of this sacred ground. The stadium has a capacity of approximately 52,000, and its bowl-shaped structure evokes the atmosphere of the former National Stadium in Japan. The north side, on the home side, is an area where passionate supporters known as "Ultras Belgrade" gather, and apparently many seats were vandalized during the Belgrade derby against Partizan a few days earlier. Also, the entrance gates that players used to use are no longer in use to prevent attacks from supporters; instead, players enter the pitch through an imposing underground tunnel. Loud chants are played inside the tunnel, creating a truly immersive experience. After the tour, we stopped by the stadium shop.
