In recent weeks, the violence there has driven hundreds of thousands of Rohingya to flee to Bangladesh. Our correspondent in the region, Clovis Casali, was one of the few journalists able to travel there. He met terrified members of this Muslim minority. A rare document. On August 25, 2017, Rohingya fighters from ARSA (the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) attacked police stations, provoking an immediate and bloody response from the Burmese army. Burma claims its operations were simply aimed at hunting down "terrorists," but NGOs and the UN consider it a campaign of "ethnic cleansing." Some even speak of genocide. ►► Watch our report: "Buddhist extremists' hatred of the Rohingya" After weeks of negotiations with the authorities, our correspondent in the region, Clovis Casali, was authorized to accompany the army during a visit to this area ravaged by fighting. ►► Also read: Aung San Suu Kyi visits the Rohingya region In Rohingya villages, food is in critically short supply because humanitarian access has been cut off. On the beaches, hundreds of them are desperate to leave the country by crossing the Naf River, the border between Arakan State (also known as Rakhine) and Bangladesh. In an exclusive report, France 24 takes you on a journey to meet this Muslim ethnic group, considered one of the most persecuted minorities in the world. ►► Also watch our interview with the High Commissioner for Refugees: "The most urgent thing is to stop the violence" http://www.france24.com/fr/reporters Our website: http://www.france24.com/fr/ Join us on Facebook: / france24.videos Follow us on Twitter: / f24videos
