In this video, you will learn how to perform and interpret a paired t-test in Excel using the Data Analysis tool. We will work with a reading fluency example in which the same students were assessed before and after an intervention. From this case, we will see how to: • Identify when two samples are related. • Recognize the test requirements and assumptions. • State the alternative and null hypotheses. • Interpret the difference between the before and after measurements. • Analyze the t-statistic, degrees of freedom, and two-tailed p-value. • Make a decision regarding the null hypothesis. • Write up the results of the analysis. The paired t-test is used when the observations are paired, for example, when the same people are assessed at two different times or under different conditions. Excel's Data Analysis tool does not include a formal normality test. Assessing the normality of the differences is explained in other videos on this channel.
