Tour of Scalan Seminary and Mill Buildings for Moray Doors Open Day 2021

Welcome to the Scalan Mills and Seminary. Join us on this video tour of a secluded and atmospheric corner of the Glenlivet Estate. See inside the two recently conserved mill buildings filled with historic graffiti providing a glimpse of daily life for those who farmed here in the 19th and 20th Centuries, the original threshing mills, the newly refurbished waterwheel and a range of objects left inside by past inhabitants. This was the original site of a Catholic seminary built in the 1700s to secretly train men to become priests when Catholicism was prohibited. We tour around the seminary building that was turned into a farmhouse in the 1800s and show how the wider site has more recently become a home for nature.
