"It Is the Church That Saves Us" | SSPX, Schism, and the Crisis of Unity

On June 30th, 1988, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre consecrated four bishops without a papal mandate — an act that ruptured visible communion with the Catholic Church. This week, the Society of St. Pius X will consecrate four more. In this homily, Fr. Christopher Smith addresses the theological roots of the crisis: why a "state of emergency" cannot simply be declared by individuals, why the ends never justify the means, and why authentic Catholic tradition cannot be advanced by breaking from the visible Church Christ founded. Drawing on Scripture, the First Vatican Council, Pope Pius XII's Ad Apostolorum Principis, and the witness of St. Gregory of Nyssa and St. Leo the Great, this homily is a call to faithfulness, humility, and hope.
