MODERNIZED 1962 Otis Traction Freight Elevators At Former Sears Oakbrook Center In Oak Brook, IL

(03/09/2026) These are the freight elevators inside the former Sears department store building at Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook, Illinois. These elevators were saved from redevelopment. What they did was strip the whole building down to the original structure and kept the flooring and they built a new facade and interior around it. It’s the original building but at the same time new construction. They did demolish the original passenger elevator which is unfortunate but at least the kept the old freight elevators. These are some Otis traction freight elevators from 1962 that were modernized by Total Elevator Service in 2019 with new fixtures, doors, motors, and controllers. Many people got confused that MEI modernized these things because of their slogan “Total Elevator Solutions” but no, Prospect Elevators has said that these were modernized by Total Elevator Service (which are based in Plainfield, Illinois). These elevators have some neat Innovation fixtures I have never seen before. On the first floor, there is a rear door that doesn't seem to open anymore and it still has the original Otis doors.
