Nunney Castle shatters the silence at the Keighley and Worth Valley Spring Gala | 19/03/2026

Great Western locos are well known for having loud barks but the volcanic displays from 5029 Nunney Castle at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway's Spring Steam Gala were something else. Starting the video at Top Field, near Haworth, the Castle thunders towards Oxenhope on its first solo round trip. The loco could be heard for several minutes before it could be seen. Next, 5029 is seen in close-up at Keighley while waiting for departure before moving to the lineside to see Nunney Castle double heading with fellow visiting loco, 34046 Braunton. The pair make a noisy climb up the steep gradient, with the Castle doing most of the work and shaking the ground as it passes. Finally, onboard footage from the front coach captures the loco struggling to leave Keighley and then powering out of Ingrow.
