LERDERDERG - Lets explore the WEST No1 TRACK.

In this explore I head out along West No. 1 Track in the Lerderderg State Park, following both branches of this old forest management track to see where they lead. Unlike a lot of walks in the Lerderderg, this one is actually a great option for beginners or anyone wanting an easier day out. At just around 5kms, the walk is fairly easy to follow, the grades are gentle, and it’s a good chance to experience the bush without tackling the steep descents the area is known for. The area is also full of classic Australian bush scenery, with silver banksia and grass trees lining sections of the track and adding to the feel of the walk. For anyone planning to visit, the best access is via O’Briens Road and down Blue Gum Track. Coming in from Lerderderg Gorge Road is extremely rough at the moment and is close to impassable in a two wheel drive vehicle. Along the northern branch I begin spotting pink ribbons tied through sections of the bush, possibly marking a trail running route or another unofficial path through the area. That quickly sparks an idea for a future explore — come back and follow the ribbons properly to see exactly where they go. Sometimes the simple tracks end up raising the biggest questions.
