Hugh Nibley's One Eternal Round Lecture Series, Lecture 1: Egyptologists as Critics of Joseph Smith
In this initial lecture, Hugh Nibley discusses the prominent and founding scholars of Egyptology. Many of these scholars consistently rejected Joseph Smith's claim; others who lent credence to the Prophet's revelations suddenly ceased to be Egyptologists. Notably, Nibley reveals that some of these critics did not possess the linguistic abilities necessary to carry out research in this field, leaving the audience to wonder how these men's opinions gained such persuasion among other scholars and, by extension, their readers.
