Amperage needs to be hot enough so that when you hold a very tight arc , the rod will not stick. Arc length needs to be short. Rod angle needs to be kept to a minimum..only 5-15 degrees. A long arc will result in molten metal falling out of the puddle and will not produce good results. I used 125 amps for this video but all machines are a bit different and even 7018 rods are different. For example, a Lincoln Excalibur 7018 might require more amperage than a hobart from tractor supply.
