There is an acronym used in shielded metal arc welding called CLAMS. C is for current. and that includes polarity, amperage, voltage, and even advanced settings like dig, or hot start functions. L is for Length of arc. Happiness is a tight arc. A is for angle of travel. Stick welding is pretty forgiving on angle of travel but if you get out of scope and use too much angle either push or pull, things dont go as well as they should. M is for manipulation of electrode. sometimes its best to use a drag technique, other times a weave motion works best.
