Emu's Pink Windmill Show Ep7 (1986) - FULL EPISODE

The infamous Grotbags-less episode, broadcast live on Friday, 4th April, 1986, while Carol Lee Scott was evidently unwell. So what did they do? Well, first of all, Freddie Stevens and David Tate as Redford and Croc do a superb job of keeping the show moving on their own, and later on the wonderful Pat Coombs is drafted in as a supply witch from the WI. Chances are this was all done on relatively short notice, so with that in mind, everything goes surprisingly well despite some obvious seat-of-the-pants ad-libbing, and it's all still excellent fun. A personal highlight is the construction of the "Witch Whey" joke, which is positively music hall in nature and utterly wasted on the young audience. The songs in this one are Nothing Can Stop Us Now (originally by Kiki Dee) and a brilliant high-energy rendition of A New Ray of Sunshine (originally done very differently by Dobie Gray). It's worth pointing out that there's no pre-record in that first one and everything you see in that is 100% live. Meanwhile, Claire Davenport as Queen Hildegard visits King Boggle ahead of the big match, Rod and Emu join in a PE lesson at Kirkby Comprehensive, and there's a fair bit of controversy in the quizzes and games. In fact, something happens in the second Spin Quiz that I don't think had ever happened before, nor happened again. (Both Spin Quizzes are toe-curlingly excruciating, for very different reasons.) And is it too late to ask for a stewards inquiry into who precisely won that Grotto Game?
