Hollow Knight: Silksong - Lost Verdania | Piano Cover (Advanced Level / Sheet Music) arr. Ylan Chu
This is my arrangement of "Lost Verdania" from Hollow Knight: Silksong (composed by Christopher Larkin) for advanced piano as requested by my students. It is written in the original key so that you can play along with the OST. There is a count-in of one measure (7 beats). Special thanks to my friend Dominique (percussionist/multi-instrumentalist) for discussions regarding meter/notation choices and layout readability. • More Hollow Knight: Silksong piano arrangements: • Hollow Knight: Silksong Piano Sheet Music ... • My training is in classical piano (Doctorate in Music - Piano Performance), so I try my best to respect and preserve the source material in my transcriptions/arrangements while adapting to the appropriate level for my students. Notes: • The students I wrote this for have a wider handspan than I do. I am just reading this as a demo, so you will probably notice the substitutions/splitting/redistribution of notes in my playing which is my norm to make it playable (with all the voicing, too) - do what best fits your hands! • Meter: this does not shift to 4/4 due to the grouping. Theoretically, you could do 3/8, 4/8, 3/8, 5/8, but that looks quite busy on the page and 15/8 is too long of a measure. With the 7/8 and 8/8, it is consistent with the later 6/8 and 9/8 and you can subdivide into the 3+2+2 and 3+2+3 (which I opted to highlight rather than full measure green since it is different). • Duplets vs. dotted eighth + sixteenth tied to eighth: normally I would use duplets for the 3:2 (Bernstein uses this a lot in West Side Story), but the combination of that and shifting meters was a nightmare to look at. At least with the ties, you can readily see where things should line up. • Use of tenuto to indicate melody (mm. 37-39 staccati similar idea, all under pedal, though, so not actually that short). • I'd say this is early advanced for the playing, but navigating the notation tips it to advanced. • mm. 12 - RH yes, play the C on beat 3. • mm. 21-24 - lines between hands show where the melody is going • mm. 43-46 - I split the middle staff b/t hands as needed (this also looked a right mess as two staves - if anyone actually wants to see what this looked like, leave a comment and I'll add it to the Silksong music analysis video I'm working on) • mm. 47-50 - RH octave clef (play one octave higher than written) • Pedal: I change ~every full measure or harmony change. Mostly half/three quarters pedal to sustain the ringing. In the last measure, change on beat 5. Of course, use your own judgment to avoid it sounding too washy.
