Hollow Knight: Silksong - The Choir (High Halls Gauntlet) Piano Cover (Advanced Level) arr. Ylan Chu
This is my arrangement of "The Choir" from Hollow Knight: Silksong (composed by Christopher Larkin) for early advanced/advanced piano as requested by my students. It is written in the original key so that you can play along with the OST. (This music is played during the High Halls gauntlet and before Whispering Vaults.) There is a count-in of two measures (2x6 beats). Blue circle is subdivided to 6, and beneath that in dotted quarters (beats 1&4) because this goes fast. Performance notes are below. • More Hollow Knight: Silksong piano arrangements: • Hollow Knight: Silksong Piano Sheet Music ... • My training is in classical piano (Doctorate in Music - Piano Performance), so I try my best to respect and preserve the source material in my transcriptions/arrangements while adapting to the appropriate level for my students. I talk about the books I used in my studies in this video: • Books I Used in Music School (from Beginner to Doctorate): • Books I Used in Music School (from Beginne... Notes: • It is fully winter where I am in Canada (snow/ice storms!) and my lovely piano is understandably quite temperamental during this season, so there is some extra ringing/creaking/clicking, etc. from the keys and pedal use (especially ringing G). My piano technician can't do much about the ever changing weather, so we're gonna roll with it. • I wrote in brackets for hand redistribution. Some written finger suggestions may differ from what I’m playing because my students have a wider handspan than I do. If repeated octaves are an issue, drop a voice. • Our friend hemiola makes an appearance here, so you'll see some beaming grouped in 3/4 on occasion. • mm. 7, 15 - LH if you use 25 on beat 1, then I’d suggest 15 and 3 on the previous eighths. The alt version I use is 15 and 2 then 15 and continue as written. • m. 13 RH 15 sub to 2 for G to sustain both G and C, then catch the Eb after with 1 • m. 36 LH tremolo • m. 45 section and similar - LH - since repeated octaves can be an issue (no injuries, please!), I wrote passages with the sustained bass (dotted half notes) so you can pivot off to release that extra tension (you'll see sometimes I do a higher release for this purpose). • m. 75 LH usually I would use 3-2-1 for repeated LH notes, but that doesn't work here, so I use 1-2 alt instead plus pedal. • Quadruplets are used in this (4 sixteenths in the time of 6 sixteenths). There is a page about it being sixteenths rather than eighths in the Gould "Behind Bars" for 6/8 that could theoretically be 2/4. • Pedal: This one goes fast, so I would change ~every full measure or harmony change. Hold 3/4 pedal for mm. 1-2, 3-4 to sustain the low C without it getting muddy. There are a few notes on my piano that are ringing extra long at the moment due to it being winter, so pedal changes are a tad more frequent. Of course, use your own judgment to avoid it sounding too washy. Copyright information for the original: (c) 2025 from Hollow Knight: Silksong by Team Cherry / Composer: Christopher Larkin.
