Formula Student Driverless: building a race car that beats the pilot
By David Korčák, Marko Matoničkin, Roman Šíp (eForce Team, CTU in Prague): Student teams across the world compete in an engineering competition called “Formula Student”. The objective is to build a high-performance, full-size race car from scratch, defend the design in front of experienced members of the industry, and finally, race against each other. Recently, a fully autonomous category has been added. The autonomous cars must be able to drive without any human intervention on both known and unknown tracks. We will present the competition in general and then focus on our team, eForce Prague Formula, and show what approach we’re taking. We will dive deeper into our autonomous driving stack, what algorithms and machine learning methods are used to achieve faster-than-human performance.
