In my last video, I mentioned that I currently have two jobs in the Netherlands. After that, I received a job offer to work full-time at one of my jobs, and with that, the situation changes. So, I took the opportunity to contact the Belastingdienst (Dutch tax authority) to ask questions about a form I received regarding worldwide income and also to better understand my situation. During the conversation, I discovered that the tax on my salary from the part-time job wouldn't be as advantageous for me to continue working. Now that I have a full-time contract with a company and maintain a second part-time job, the second job ends up being much less financially advantageous than I imagined. This is because the "loonheffingskorting" (tax benefit that reduces the tax deducted from salary) can only be applied to one source of income. As a consequence, the tax deducted from the second job is higher, and the net amount received ends up being much lower. In addition to my conversation with the Belastingdienst (Dutch Tax Office), I also heard the same recommendation from several Dutch people: depending on your income and employment situation, having two jobs may not bring the financial return that many people expect. Another important point is that, in some cases, you may even risk having to pay additional taxes to the government when you file your annual income tax return, if you received larger tax deductions than you were entitled to throughout the year.
