Amtrak 968 - Cascades Airo D-2 Set Move through Harrisburg, PA - May 12, 2026

On Tuesday May 12, 2026, one of Amtrak's new Airo sets headed back west to Seattle, WA from Philadelphia, PA after some months of testing on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. The set was placed on Amtrak extra train 968, which came to a temporary stop in Harrisburg to allow for eastbound Pennsylvanian train 42 to pull off Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line. Ironically, Amtrak's Phase II Heritage Unit number 130 was leading the extra, which was the same unit I saw leading Pennsylvanian 43 in October 2025 when the first completed Airo set made its way east:    • Amtrak Airo Trainset Ferry Move on the Key...   Once 42 was clear HARRIS interlocking, 968 departed west for Pittsburgh, Chicago, and eventually Seattle. The Siemens built Airo sets will eventually replace the majority of the 50 plus year old Amfleet roster. At least one Airo set is still in Philadelphia for testing on both the Northeast and Keystone Corridors.
