The parish of Santiago el Mayor celebrated one of the most traditional Eucharistic events on Utrera's religious calendar this Sunday with the Corpus Chico procession, a celebration that brought to a close the sacramental services held in the historic parish church over the past few days. The day began at 7:00 p.m. with a Solemn Mass in honor of the Blessed Sacrament, presided over by the parish priest of Santiago el Mayor, Juan Luis Rubio Lora. Following the Mass, the traditional Eucharistic Procession began, once again winding its way through the parish streets, carrying the monstrance under a canopy through some of the most emblematic locations in the city's historic center. The celebration marked the culmination of the Solemn Sacramental Triduum organized by the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament of Santiago and the Brotherhood of the Captive Redeemer in honor of the Feast of Corpus Christi. In the days leading up to the event, numerous parishioners participated in the services held at the parish church, which included the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, and the celebration of the Eucharist. Procession Route The procession departed from the Parish Church of Santiago el Mayor and proceeded along Ponce de León Street, Catalina de Perea Street, Plaza Enrique de la Cuadra, La Plaza, Perafán de Rivera Street, Plaza del Altozano, Plaza de la Constitución, Sevilla Street, Alcalde Fernández Heredia Street, Clemente de la Cuadra Street, Ramón y Cajal Street, Sevilla Street, Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza del Altozano, and Ponce de León Street, finally returning to the parish church. Along the route, many residents decorated various points to welcome the passage of the Blessed Sacrament, creating a scene that once again demonstrated the deep roots of this religious tradition in the historic center of Utrera. The musical accompaniment was provided by the 'Álvarez Quintero' Musical Association of Utrera, whose music accompanied the procession and enhanced a celebration that draws numerous faithful and devotees each year. With this procession, the parish community of Santiago concluded the Corpus Christi celebrations, a festival that holds a prominent place in the religious life of Utrera and whose Corpus Chico celebration is one of its most unique, traditional, and beloved expressions for the people of Utrera.
