Riding the Best Bike Trail in Every State: Georgia

My search for America's best paved bike trail brings me to Georgia and the Silver Comet Trail, one of the most famous paved rail-trails in the United States. In Episode 5 of 50 Bike Trails in 50 States, I'm riding and ranking Georgia's representative to see how it stacks up against the best bike trails in America. Stretching more than 60 miles across northwest Georgia, the Silver Comet Trail offers smooth pavement, long wooded corridors, scenic rail-trail riding, and some of the most memorable landmarks we've encountered so far in the series. As one of the most popular Georgia bike trails, it attracts cyclists, bikepackers, bicycle tourers, and rail-trail enthusiasts from across the country. Along the way, I stop in Rockmart, cross the incredible Pumpkinvine Trestle, and ride through the iconic Brushy Mountain Tunnel to see whether Georgia has what it takes to reach the top of the national leaderboard. The Silver Comet Trail also connects directly to Alabama's Chief Ladiga Trail, creating one of the longest continuous paved trail systems in the United States and one of America's premier long-distance cycling routes.
