In Mongolian, a market is called zaha. This is the largest zaha in Mongolia, and it is full of energy, selling not only general goods, clothing, and food for the general public, but also traditional Mongolian costumes and hats, traditional Mongolian musical instruments, and horsehead fiddles. At the entrance to Zaha, they were selling airag, a drink I wanted to try when I came to Mongolia. Airag is a drink made by fermenting horse milk, and has a low alcohol content of about 1% and is quite sour! It is the only animal alcohol in the world. You have to drink a lot to get drunk, so everyone buys a lot of airag. This is Shankha Monastery, founded in 1647. It is located near the ancient city of Karakorom, a World Heritage Site, 350 km west of Ulaanbaatar. The chewy dough was also amazing! 5th place: Khoshour The vast grasslands on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar! We came here to watch the horse races! It's amazing to be able to see the great nature and horses that are Mongolia! This is Khoshour, a Mongolian specialty dish! These are lamb dumplings made by wrapping minced lamb in kneaded wheat flour dough and deep-frying them! These dumplings filled with meat juice are the best! They're the national dish of Mongolia! 4th place: Bose and milk soup dumplings This is Mongolian specialty bose, steamed lamb dumplings! The thick dough is filled with plenty of minced lamb, and the slightly firm meat is delicious! And this is milk soup dumplings called banshitai tsai. A dish of lamb dumplings stewed in a slightly salty milk tea soup! It also contains rice, so it's very filling! I love these milk soup dumplings and have eaten them several times. It's a light dish, so I recommend it when you're tired of greasy Mongolian food! 3rd place: Lamb dishes Mongolian cuisine is all about lamb! It's lamb again! Lamb is used in so many dishes that you'll be surprised. Moreover, in Mongolia, young animals are not eaten as meat, so there is almost no soft lamb meat, and most of it is tough mutton.
