It is a magnificent structure that is both modern and faithfully reflects the heritage of ancient Egypt. The world's first suspended obelisk The scale of the museum, harmoniously integrated with the pyramid, is truly immense. Designed so that visitors can walk into the space beneath the obelisk and look up, it offers visitors a grand and unique visual experience. The Grand Atrium and the Colossus of Ramses II Upon entering the museum, the first thing that overwhelms visitors is the massive stone statue of Ramses II standing in the center. Weighing approximately 83 tons, this colossal statue was excavated from the Memphis archaeological site and transported here. It is an artifact displayed in the Tutankhamun Coffin, one of the highlights of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). To protect the mummy of the young Pharaoh Tutankhamun, the ancient Egyptians wrapped the artifacts in layers, much like Russian dolls. The structure is truly astonishing. On the outermost layer was a massive sarcophagus, and surrounding it were four layers of massive wooden shrines (boxes) covered in gold leaf. Inside the sarcophagus, there were three more layers of human-shaped coffins. The innermost coffin is the famous 'Golden Coffin,' made of 110 kg of pure gold.
