COSTOCK: Rushcliffe Parish #15 of 59

RUSHCLIFFE PARISH #15: COSTOCK Costock – “Cortling’s Place” This week in Rushcliffe we find ourselves in Costock, a village which links the two parts of Rushcliffe we’ve covered so far, together! Costock lies on the A60 between the villages of Bunny and Rempstone, and its nearest town in Loughborough, although its also not too far away from Nottingham . Like Rempstone, Costock is on a crossroads, but this time, the crossing point is far from busy. In essence, it’s a linear village this one, but there are five main areas to consider. First of all, there’s the historic core, defined as the area immediately West of the A60. With its narrow lanes and cottages fronting them directly, the core contains the church, the manor house and most of the oldest buildings. Then we have main Street where most of the facilities are located such as the school, the village hall and the one and only pub – The Generous Briton. The third area is the one this walk will begin with – Loughboorough Road and The Old Main Road, which used to have another pub many moons ago. To the extreme West is the lovely little Costock Nature Reserve together with a brand new area of housing. Finally, to the north is Highfields where you’ll find the Holy Cross Convent. So all in all, there’s a bit to talk about here.
