Why 1500m Speed Work Helps 5K & 10K Runners

In this running coaching vlog, I explain why 1500m speed work helps 5K & 10K runners and why adding some 1500m pace sessions into your training can give you a real race day edge. If you’re a beginner runner, improving club runner, or competitive distance runner, this video breaks down how speed endurance training can improve your 5K training, 10K training, finishing speed, VO2 max, and ability to handle lactic acid late in races. The video starts with an important topic many runners overlook: the warm up before a track session. I talk through why a proper running warm up matters not just for injury prevention, but for preparing your body for high intensity interval training. I also show the 4 key warm up steps for runners: an easy jog, dynamic running drills, plyometric drills, and strides. From there, we head to Marl Pits athletics track in Rossendale, Lancashire, where I coach Dan and Adam through their first 1500m pace workout. The session is 2 sets of 800m, 800m off 3 minutes rest, with 10 minutes between sets— a demanding speed endurance session designed to improve running economy, top-end efficiency, and late-race strength. Throughout the vlog, I explain why even runners focused on longer events should sometimes step outside their normal race pace training. 1500m work for distance runners can help develop a stronger kick, better pace control, improved tolerance to discomfort, and greater efficiency at VO2 max pace. This channel documents my transition from sub-elite runner to running coach, sharing practical training advice, real coaching sessions, and performance-focused insight to help runners train smarter, race better, and keep improving. 🔴 SUBSCRIBE for more episodes just like this 🔴    / @bettsruncoach   BEGINNER RUNNING DRILLS | Dynamic Drills | Walk with heel raise -    • A walk with heel raise   A walk -    • A Walk   Lunge and Twist -    • Lunge and Twist - Dynamic Warm-Up for Runners   Plyometric warm ups | HIGH KNEES -    • High Knees   A SKIP -    • A Skip   POGOS -    • Pogo Jumps   Time Stamps | Aims of the video | 0:00 Importance Of Warm Ups | 0:52 Dynamic Drills For Runners | 1:37 Details Of The 1500m Session | 3:03 Session Start | 6:33 End Of Set 1 | 8:39 Set 2 To Session End | 8:55 Session Summary & Why 1500m Training Can Work For You | 10:44 FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA | INSTAGRAM |   / bettsruncoach   FACEBOOK | https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
