Maenofferen In 2002. Never seen before footage.
Right Folks here is a fantastic bit of filming from the well known and explored Maenofferen Slate Quarry. In this Video Adam dose, a solo trip to the site way back in 202. At this point the Quarry site had been closed for 4 Ish years. In this film you see so much of the site as it was left. In most parts of the buildings the power was still on. The powerhouse was still locked up with the power on. The pumps were still pumping out mine water. And the canteen and caban buildings were still in position be it with no roofs. Lots of the Locomotives were still parked as they were left. Slate is still in wooden crates waiting to be taken away. Adam returned in 2003 and did a small amount of filming. You will see some of the site has already started to be destroyed. There is an excavator by the old canteen block presumably waiting to take it down. The old railway route and River course were still visible. Now it’s all filled in. You can also see the workshops roofs in a year are missing slates. It’s a fascinating look in good detail at a site where its now smashed up and vandalized. It’s still a great place to visit but here is a good idea of what it was like when the lights were switched off for good. Also it possibly the last train journey from the Dressing shed to the incline through the now blocked up entrance portal with the camera on the Wagon. We hope you enjoy this bit of history! Oh he filmed it on a Old Samsung Handy Cam on 8mm tape! I recovered the video using a Sony HI8 camera that was in like new condition. Through a Krammer AV scaler into HDMI capture card and used OBS. I had to do the Audio separately… So, a Complicated Conversion but it worked!!
