The St. Clair Tunnel Company's One Of A Kind Locomotives
The St. Clair Tunnel Company was a small, yet border crossing railroad subsidiary that hosted a small variety of unique steam and electric locomotives. The needs of this railroad were rather specific, shuttle freight and passenger trains from Port Huron, Michigan in the United States, to Sarnia, Ontario in Canada with 2% gradients leading into the St. Clair River Tunnel underneath the St. Clair River. Strong and heavy motive power was going to be needed for the job. From 0-10-0T camelback tank engines, to boxcab electrics, this is the story of the St. Clair Tunnel Company and its unique locomotives.
