When he talks about his failed dream, Marco Antonelli seems to feel a melancholy that he has been able to accept, but that still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. We at The Pass met him last year at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza during a Kateyama Test, an event at which Marco was present as team principal of his team AKM Motorsport. During our Track Talk, Marco explained what he lacked to become a professional driver and what he learned to do to still leave his mark on motorsport, also revealing that he would not have wanted to pass this passion on to his son. The Bolognese born in 1964 enters the world of competitions with a genuine approach: he debuts on a small circuit near the airport of his hometown, at the wheel of “homemade” stock cars and obtained from cars destined for demolition. Forced to invent a way to finance his career, he also begins to prepare other drivers' cars as a mechanic. It is precisely thanks to this dual role and his successes on the track that he reaches the Italian Superturismo Championship, before being called by Alfa Romeo to try the DTM. When he sees the possibility of reaching his goal one step away from professionalism disappear, his unconditional love for racing convinces him not to give up and to dedicate his entire life to motorsport, simply changing direction: he founds his team in 1993, building his own reality artisanally and dealing with the compromises that Marco told us about. Currently engaged in another season as team principal of Antonelli Motorsport, protagonist in the Italian Gran Turismo Championship after having competed and won in the GT Open as well as in the Porsche Carrera Cup, and AKM Motorsport, which competes in both Formula 4 and karting, while closely following the career of his son Kimi in Formula 1, Marco teaches that passion goes beyond disappointment and leads you to do everything to continue living it, without feeling the weight of efforts and sacrifices.
