Finishing the Food Cache and Harvesting Potatoes | Off Grid | Log Cabin Build | Pioneer Life
The elevated food cache was used in the 1700 and 1800's to store food in the winter to keep predators out. Peter finishes sheeting the walls and roof and installs the door. In order to prevent squirrel access, Peter climbs adjacent trees, using modern arboriculture safety equipment to trim branches back from the structure. He, then, gives a tour of the root cellar, explaining its construction, before harvesting this year's potatoes and setting them to cure before they get stored for the winter.
