He had a long political career on the left in our country. He was a presidential candidate in 2009, a driving force, from exile, for socialist renewal, and Minister of State under Presidents Salvador Allende, Patricio Aylwin, and Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle. A law graduate from the University of Chile and with economics studies at Harvard, during the Popular Unity government he served as economic advisor to President Allende, vice president of Codelco, and, for two months, Minister of Mining.
