1969 Ford Cobra 428
View this vehicle on our website for a complete description, price, and many photos. This very rare 1969 Ford Cobra 428 is the real deal and has been completely restored to high show quality standards. It retains its original color combination. It’s powered by its original matching numbers 428 CJ Ram Air V8 engine, C-6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission and 9” rear with 3.50 gears. It’s fully documented with the original build sheet and Marti Auto Works “Deluxe Report” which are included. It’s one of only 3,786 built which makes it highly collectable. As documented this example was built on November 29th, 1968. It was retailed by Massey-Ford located in Hagerstown, MD on April 17th, 1969. It was built in Atlanta, GA as a 1969 Ford Cobra 2-door hardtop with a Royal Maroon Paint exterior and Black Broadcloth/Vinyl bench seat interior. The car was a previous drag car and could’ve been part of Holmann and Moody but there’s no documentation to support that claim. Gregory decided to sell the car a few years later in 2008 to John Armacost who also lives in Maryland. John is a very experienced restorer of various Ford models. John purchased this rare car to restore and bring it back to its glory days. It was a very solid example and completely matching numbers so it made total sense. Unfortunately, parts were hard to source so he had to collect them over the course of many years. Finally around 2014 he started the meticulous nut and bolt restoration which was on a part time basis. The exterior screams muscle car and is striking in appearance with its mean demeanor. The car retains all of its original sheet metal with exception of the hood and trunk lid which was taken off another car. The body and paint work was completed by well-respected Jerry’s Hot Rods in Maryland. The body is very straight with excellent body gaps throughout. It sports a hood scoop and hood pin which looks awesome. The hood, doors and trunk lid close very nicely. The car was repainted in its factory original color of Royal Maroon paint. The paint was recently detailed and looks ocean deep. It does have a small imperfection on the hood that can be seen in the photo gallery. The car retains all of its original Ford Car-Lite stamped glass which is in very nice condition especially considering the age. The wheels originally would’ve been black with larger style deluxe hubcaps which wasn’t very attractive in most people’s opinion. The car sits on 14” steel wheels that were painted body color and then wrapped with Goodyear Polyglas F70x14 white raised letters. The beautiful black interior is very simple but at the same time very stylish. It’s actually very spacious and comfortable. During the restoration the original build sheet was found under the rear seat. The build sheet was laminated for protection and included. It still retains some original interior trim such as the headliner, dash, gauges, seats, seat belts and rear package tray. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The car is powered by the original matching numbers 428-4V Cobra Jet Ram Air V8 engine that was factory rated with 335HP. The engine was completely rebuilt by Morris Automotive Machine located in Manchester, MD. The engine runs and sounds awesome! The 428 CJ was available with or without the Ram Air Induction package, however those with Ram Air still carried the same advertised power rating. The 428 CJ without Ram Air, came with the following items: 80-ampere heavy-duty battery, 3.25:1 open differential, heavy-duty cooling package, 55-ampere alternator, chrome valve covers and dual exhaust. The Ram Air 428 CJ included all the above, but had a 3.50:1 open differential and the functional hood scoop. With Ram Air “428 Cobra Jet” emblems were placed on each side of the hood scoop and without Ram Air “428” emblems were placed on the front fender. It’s equipped with its original Holley 735cfm 4-barrell carburetor and distributor which now is setup with Pertonix electronic ignition. The engine breathes through factory manifolds and a factory reproduction dual exhaust system. The exhaust system is has the original exhaust hangers. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers C-6 Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed transmission. The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts.
