Bike death stems - are they really a thing? Hell yes they are!
Death stems - or death parts - the name strikes fear into the hearts of us cyclists, but are they really a thing? Afraid so, though you can seriously reduce the risk of a catastrophic parts failure - regular inspection is key, but make sure you are not riding a bike fitted with an Ava death stem or a Modolo death stem - both have a well deserved reputation for falling apart just when you don`t want them to - with the Modolo death stem having been subject to a full worldwide recall back in the day - still didn`t stop me form mistakenly fitting one! Its not just vintage parts that can fail - Giant are in big trouble for current frame failure and just what world of disaster is Shimano facing with Dura Ace cranks delaminating into its component parts... #deathstems #deathparts www.vintage-velo.org
