Most interesting video on YouTube - About A Track
The Icknield Way is often described as the oldest road in Britain—but what does 5,000 years actually look like? I’ll try to put its incredible age into perspective. This road was already in use before the Great Pyramid of Giza was built, before Stonehenge was completed, and long before Rome even existed. But history isn't just about kings, battles and famous monuments. For the first 3,000 years that people walked this path, Britain had no writing. No books. No recorded history. Millions of ordinary lives have been lived along this route, yet almost every one of those stories has been lost forever. So instead of looking at dates, I look down. What shoes were people wearing when they stood on this very patch of mud? From Neolithic deer-hide foot wraps, Bronze Age leather shoes, Roman legionary sandals and Saxon turn-shoes, to medieval pilgrims, Tudor drovers, Victorian clogs... and finally my modern Altberg boots—5,000 years of history can be told through the footprints left on one ancient road. Sometimes the most remarkable piece of history isn't a castle or a cathedral. Sometimes it's just a muddy track that has quietly connected thousands of generations of people.
