Ringo’s unmistakable groove in “All I’ve Got To Do” anchors this track with that smooth, early-Beatles swing and an especially effective use of the hi-hat. For that reason, his drums deserve to sit at the center of this superb John Lennon composition — providing a solid anchor and center of gravity that was completely absent from the original stereo mix, where all instrumentation sat in the left channel, all vocals in the right, and nothing at all in the center. In the original, Ringo’s rhythmic touch gets somewhat lost in the left channel. With his drums now placed in the center in this new 2025 remix, the entire song feels alive again. Not only have his drums been repositioned, but I’ve also added subtle stereo depth by isolating the hi-hat and placing it slightly right of center. This isolation was achieved by manually editing each individual hit — no de-mixing was used for this high-hat isolation, since no other drum struck simultaneously with the hi-hat. It was a long and painstaking process, but one that proved well worth the effort. De-mixing, however, was used to isolate the guitars, bass guitar, and vocals — and that’s where an interesting discovery emerged. Every reference source I’ve found lists only John and Paul as the vocalists on this recording, but the de-mixing clearly reveals George’s voice performing a third, mid-harmony vocal on the line “You just got to call on me.” It’s low in the original mix and masked by John’s lead and Paul’s high harmony, but in this new remix, George’s part has been isolated, slightly raised, and moved just right of center. The same treatment was applied to Paul’s harmony on the lines “All I’ve got to do.” These adjustments create a new stereo depth and clarity in the vocals that have never been heard before. The guitars remain in the left channel, while the bass guitar has been moved closer to center, creating a more natural balance. I believe this new arrangement of vocals and instruments brings a sense of balance never before heard in this early Beatles recording. In fact, I suspect that had the song been recorded just a few years later, we might have heard something very close to this 2025 remix. There’s immense untapped potential in these early recordings — their unusual original mixes leave room to breathe new life into these brilliantly composed songs. It’s astonishing that the professionals haven’t explored this more deeply. Background: John Lennon wrote “All I’ve Got To Do” in 1961 in an attempt to emulate Smokey Robinson, but it wasn’t recorded until September 11, 1963, in Studio Two at EMI Studios, London. It’s unclear whether Paul collaborated in its composition. The song was recorded entirely during the 2:30 to 6:00 pm session, in 15 takes, immediately following “Little Child.” It was released in the U.K. on November 22, 1963, as the second track on side one of With The Beatles, and in the U.S. on January 20, 1964, as the fifth track on side one of Meet The Beatles!
