BC Rail Heritage Unit, VIA Rail Canadian & CPKC Sunset Action | Surrey & Pitt Meadows Railfanning

Railfanning in Surrey and Pitt Meadows, British Columbia on March 9th and April 10th, 2026. This trip featured a great mix of CN, CPKC, VIA Rail, and Kansas City Southern power, including CN 3115, the BC Rail Heritage Unit, leading a fast CN intermodal train through Surrey. Also featured is CN 8906, an SD70M-2 with a classic-sounding horn leading another CN intermodal train, along with CN 2780, former CITI Rail power now operating in CN service. Other highlights include a CPKC grain train running on CN’s Langley Subdivision with KCS power and one of CPKC’s newest locomotives, VIA Rail’s Canadian with F40PH-3 locomotives, and several freight trains on the CPKC mainline in Pitt Meadows. The Pitt Meadows portion of the trip includes a pair of CPKC freights led by classic standard-cab EMD power, including CP 3029 and CP 5020, photographed during a beautiful spring sunset.
